Summary
Anastasia, a duke's daughter of commoner origin, is married off to the young head of an earl's house as a sacrificial lamb to ease her family's financial troubles. On her disastrous wedding night, her new husband Eugene delivers a line devoid of originality: “I have no intention of loving you.” Expecting this cold treatment and never hoping for a warm welcome, Anastasia does not despair. Instead, she drops her facade of a timid, obedient lady, curtsies gracefully, and smiles. “Let's become business partners, my husband.”
